Taste of Belgium

Location: Multiple Locations
Construction Schedule: 2011 – Present
Customer: Taste of Belgium [1]
Architect and/or Engineer: Wichman Gunther Architects [2]
HGC Role: Construction Manager

Taste of Belgium [1] is in a renovated building that was originally two separate mercantile-use spaces in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The two spaces were connected by creating new openings through existing masonry walls between 1133 and 1135 Vine Street. The space at 1135 Vine Street had at one point housed the much-loved Bank Café. HGC worked to restore the original tile floor and tin ceilings in the space, while installing a stained and sealed concrete floor system in the 1133 Vine space. The original Bank Café signage structure on the exterior of the building was also retained and restored to house Taste of Belgium signage. Much of the work done by HGC features self-performance, including merging the two spaces into one. HGC renovated this space again in 2016. Additional Taste of Belgium locations built by HGC: Friendly Market in Florence, Kentucky, Short Vine in Clifton, Ohio, The Rookwood Exchange in Norwood, Ohio and most recently The Banks in Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.
