Madeira High School Addition and Renovation

Location: Cincinnati, OH
Construction Schedule: May 2020 – January 2021
Customer: Madeira High School [1]
Architect and/or Engineer:  MSA Architects [2]

Madeira High School recently received a renovation and addition that increased usable space for the community and drastically improved their arts resources. HGC served as Construction Manager on this complex project.

In 2014, Madeira’s Planning Commission began an extensive study to determine the possibility of renovating their already existing Medert Auditorium. After months of research and planning, The Commons Building began to take shape in the mind of faculty members and decision makers at Madeira High School. This was further solidified for the school and its students in 2015 when the Commons Building was added to the school’s Permanent Improvement Plan.

Working closely with the school and MSA Architects, HGC was able to tackle a great deal of work during the summer break. Over the summer, the team completed the renovation of the existing kitchen, dining commons, art room, life skills classroom, and band room. Next, the team began on the focal point of this project: the 496-seat auditorium.

The Madeira City Schools Board of Education reviewed how they had benefitted from their athletics facilities in the past years. They wanted to continue such success in their arts department with the Medert Auditorium. This space now features an orchestra pit, mezzanine seating, professional rigging, lighting, acoustic panels, and a tech booth. These enhancements will bring the students’ most ambitious projects come to life.

From pre-construction to final closeout, all teams involved worked together to ensure this project ran safely and efficiently. They navigated the safety requirements for the coronavirus pandemic, as well as staying on time and under budget. The client was exceedingly pleased with the team’s transparent communication. They were even more please with seeing their dream of the past five years come to life. The building was officially turned over in January 2021 and the students have been enjoying the space ever since.
