Graeter’s Ice Cream – Cincinnati

Location: Multiple Locations
Construction Schedule: 2006 – Present
Customer: Graeter’s Ice Cream [1]
HGC Role: Construction Manager

A Cincinnati favorite, Graeter’s has been around since 1870. In 2006, HGC Construction teamed up with Cincinnati’s iconic ice cream company to build the first new Graeter’s company-owned store in more than 20 years, and has since worked on several other locations throughout the area.

Deerfield Township
Architect: PFB Architects [2]

The 3,200 SF store was the first store outside I-275 to offer the full line of products, including pastries, candy, and ice cream. The project was completed in 2006.

Fountain Square
Architect: PFB Architects [2]

In 2007, HGC completed the Scoop Shop located on the first floor in the southwest portion of the Fifth Third Center Tower. The store offers pastries, candy, and ice cream and also has a large dining area with a view of the Tyler Davidson Fountain. In 2019, HGC was selected to lead renovations for the space, with construction set to begin in September 2019. The renovation will allow the ice cream shop to take over half of the former Servatii’s store, and it will create a bigger, improved access point from the Fifth Third lobby.

Taylor Mill
Architect: Wendel Associates [9]

HGC not only constructed the $10 million three-story Holland Restaurant Group’s headquarter building, Districts of Taylor Mill, but completed the fit-out for tenant, Graeter’s [10].  The 35,000-square-foot building is the first development in the Districts of Taylor Mill, a multimillion-dollar 157-acre commercial development. The winter of 2014 was one of the snowiest winters on record in the area. A total of 35 days were lost due to weather, but HGC was able to make up 75% of those days and construction was completed on time.

Over-the-Rhine

At just over 1,000 square feet, is the smallest retail store and so it does not feature bakery goods. Instead it channels the more historic feel of a traditional ice cream parlor in the vibrant urban entertainment district of Over-the-Rhine. The project was completed at the end of 2013.

Cherry Grove

In 2019, neighboring land was added to the existing lot of an established Graeter’s location. This allowed the location to nearly double in size, part of comprehensive renovations [17] to this flagship location. The project was being completed in phases, allowing the 4,000 SF ice cream and pastry shop to open on April 23, 2019. Phase II resulted in 2,500 SF of new play space, party room, and expanded dining area. A ribbon cutting to celebrate the new and improved location occurred on June 5, 2019.
