This large-scale multi-use new development is in the heart of Avondale. The project includes the construction of two new buildings, the North and South buildings, and the renovation/addition of a third, the West Building. Avondale Town Center  was designed to incorporate components of the neighboring buildings. HGC has completed many projects in Avondale, and was honored to bring the community’s biggest vision yet into reality.
The North and South buildings are multi-family residential  with first floor commercial . Together they offer a combined 119 residential units totaling 119,000 SF and 19 retail spaces totaling 80,000 SF. The West building is a 2,000 SF addition on a 10,000 SF existing commercial space, plus comprehensive facade repair to the full structure. The contemporary facade included a mix of brick veneer, metal paneling, Hardy panel and Hardy lap siding, and split-faced stone.
Avondale Town Center required 1.6 acres of site work and complicated logistics. The site work, construction, and West building addition all had to occur while allowing the existing retail space to remain active and easily accessible to the public. The construction site also surrounded a thriving local church that needed to continue daily operations. The team carefully collaborated with neighbors and community leaders to create a schedule and logistics plan that would cause the fewest disruptions for others.
Due to these logistical details, and the fact that the project was a cornerstone of the community, HGC’s transparency and open communication were a great asset. The team worked closely with the Avondale Community Council, including the offering of monthly meetings. There were also weekly meetings with a third party consultant who took the updates directly to the community, and there were weekly meetings with the neighboring church.
The entire project was designed for LEED certification, and the North Building was officially certified as LEED Silver in August 2019. The project also exceeded the client’s goals of inclusion: 30% MBE, 10% WBE and Section 3.
