We’ve been bringing our clients’ visions to life since 1931. That’s when our founder, Richard J. Huseman, started a construction company during the Great Depression. His values were simple: hard work, craftsmanship, putting the customer first and doing it right. Those values continue to drive our people, our projects and our culture today.
Frequently asked questions
Ask us anything! We are here to help.
What makes you different?
In addition to our grit, integrity and honest hard work, we are driven by our commitments. By guiding us as we live up to our founder’s legacy, these commitments help us build stronger environments, partnerships and communities.
Which construction method is right for my project?
Every project is different, and the only way to determine the best way to bring your idea to life is to discuss your vision with us. You can start by exploring our various capabilities or simply contact us to set up a time to talk.
How do you determine how much things will cost?
Our team of creative and successful estimators have an impressive record of consistently providing credible and reliable estimates across all markets. This reliability has a great deal to do with our collaborative approach, where we work closely across our teams and yours to leverage both hands-on in-field experience as well as cutting-edge cost estimating technology backed by a decade of historic cost data to produce accurate results.
How’s your safety record?
We have an outstanding safety record, demonstrated by our Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) status. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) awards this coveted certification only to companies committed to employee protections beyond national standard requirements. As a result, the average VPP company has a lost workday incident rate at least 50 percent below the industry average. We are one of few Ohio-based companies with this distinction.
Our comprehensive and rigorous safety program is specifically designed to control risks associated with construction operations across both the planning and execution phases of work. As a result, our EMR rating — a figure insurance companies use to gauge both past cost of injuries and future risk — is one of the lowest in the industry.
My timeline is tight. Can you work quickly?
Construction is a dynamic industry. After nearly 100 years in business, we have learned how to respond to unexpected changes with agility and grace. We frequently orchestrate accelerated timelines to accommodate the needs of our clients. Timelines are discussed in detail — along with scheduling, budgeting and other strategic planning — during a thorough Preconstruction phase at the start of every project.
How involved will I be throughout the process?
One of the best things about working with HGC is that we make our process easy so you can be as involved (or not) as you want to be. Our solutions-oriented approach means we come to the table ready to collaborate and can flex our capabilities to fit your needs.
