On January 20, 2022, the HGC Team partnered with GBBN Architects to provide a virtual behind-the-scenes glimpse of current renovations to Taft Museum of Art. The project is an extensive renovation to the 200-year-old historic home. A lot has happened since the groundbreaking in November… Guests learned about the many changes focused on infrastructure. Old homes simply weren’t built to hold the amount of priceless art the Taft Museum currently holds. The museum will receive a new HVAC system for better environmental control. New insulation will also be installed. This requires removing, rehabilitating, and rebuilding the exterior walls. The craftspeople of HGC will preserve as many of the original boards as possible. HGC previously upgraded a portion of the Taft’s HVAC. The virtual tour showed viewers the construction bubble and woodshop. The construction bubble is the protective shell built around the museum to protect it from the elements while the facade is repaired. The woodshop is where the historic siding and window sashes are being restored by Stanton Millworks, a fellow Huseman Group company like HGC. This $12.7MM project is just one way Taft Museum of Art will celebrate its bicentennial. Want to work with a company that preserves local treasures? Check out our job opportunities.
