On August 26, 2021, HGC was honored to participate in the groundbreaking for the LPH Thrives project. Founded on the idea of bringing a new wave of affordable housing to the residents of Lower Price Hill, Community Matters kicked off this five-year development with a celebration.

The ceremony marked the laying of the foundation for the new construction that will contain 16 units. The new construction is located at the corner of Eighth and Depot. 33 other units will be in previously vacant buildings in the area. This will reduce the number of vacant buildings in Lower Price Hill by 75%. The entire development will consist of 47 new apartments spanned across 11 different buildings.

The units in LPH Thrives will accommodate residents that earn between 30% and 60% of the median area income. Many of these residents have been a part of the community for more than15 years. Those who have been working with Community Matters show the desire and drive to build a better life for themselves and their families within Lower Price Hill.

The amount of support that this project has received is awe-inspiring. The price of lumber skyrocketed in 2020 and the team at Community Matters reckoned with the impact. The project needed millions of dollars in supplemental funding. Fortunately, help from community members and government officials helped push this movement to the starting line.

The project will be a labor of love between Community Matters, OTR Community Housing, HGC Construction, Platte Design, and New Republic Architecture. They will be working side by side with the community through the project’s lifetime. The final project will reflect the mission of Community Matters: creating thriving communities with neighbors.
