These projects are part of the Master Facility Plan in Sycamore Community Schools [3]. The HGC team is currently completing interior demolition in preparation for the drastic changes throughout the building.

What does it take to renovate an occupied school building? Lots of pre-planning, lots of communication with the school community, and lots of temporary walls.

Meanwhile, Symmes Elementary will be renovated and expanded to accommodate growth and expansion of early childhood opportunities. The building is the district’s oldest. Phase 1 at Symmes Elementary consists of a new 16,000 SF Preschool & Kindergarten addition. This first phase also creates a new kitchen and electrical room.

Early in February, the team completed a concrete pour. After that, they will begin erecting steel and begin framin. Then, the schedule plans to have the building under roof by spring so work begins on the interior. The second phase begins this summer, which includes more additions and a renovation of the entire school.
