HGC Newsletter | Autumn 2020

The year 2020 continues apace. It has not been an easy year for anyone. I look at my neighbors, my city, and my country and see strains and weariness. I have spoken with many of you about the toll it takes mentally, not knowing what the future might bring.

My grandfather founded HGC in 1931 [1], during the throes of the Great Depression. Getting through a crisis is in the DNA of this company. We band together. We get scrappy and innovative as our entrepreneur radar is engaged. And we are called to work with like-minded people [2].

It is also in our DNA to constantly grow. 2020 certainly changed a lot of plans, yet I’m pleased to announce two exciting restructures of leadership positions. I am proud to share that Adam Kuehne is stepping into the role of President of HGC Construction. Adam has been with us since 2005 and has been vital to the company’s growth and success in each role he has held.

Image of Adam Kuehne with quote saying "I am honored to be named President of HGC Construction. HGC is like family. And this kind of recognition and trust is what binds us. I am excited to pay it forward and put the same trust in our teams, to watch them grow and to meet whatever challenges may arise in this industry we all love." [3]

This move also allows me to take on the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Group. It is an incredible journey, leading HGC and watching it grow. The interplay and complementary nature of each member of the Group of Companies will serve us well through the next decade.

I am filled with gratitude when I see the ways in which our organizations, our teams, and our people are partnering to maintain forward momentum [5]. I am filled with pride when I see the number of projects progressing despite the year’s obstacles [6]. I am filled with enthusiasm for the new projects, new faces, and new possibilities headed our way.

There will always be more work to do; there will always be room for improvement. But together, we will make the most of it. Together, we will build a brighter future.

We cannot know what tomorrow holds, but I trust that we can get through anything together.
