Portrait of Greg LanyiAt HGC Construction, we are proud of our collaborative and welcoming workplace culture. But we know that a lot of what makes our culture great is due to our incredible staff. Each month we highlight one member from our team. This month, get to know Superintendent Greg Lanyi. Greg has been in the construction industry since 1988, and he recently completed The Schiff Center at The Seven Hills School. Other HGC projects include Scout’s Club and Hyde Park Country Club.

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY?

Work hard everyday and treat everyone the way you would like to be treated. This is something I have always tried to teach my three kids as they grew up.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF WORKING AT HGC?

The people. Everyone is there to help you in whatever way they can. All you have to do is just ask.

IF YOU COULD LEARN TO DO ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD BE?

I think it would be to play the guitar.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO (FOR A CAREER) IF YOU WEREN’T DOING THIS?

I would have probably gone into law.

WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU GET HOME FROM WORK?

Kiss my wife and tell her how beautiful she is.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEW HIRE?

Always keep learning. I have been in this business for 30 years and I never stop learning how different tasks are done. This will help you understand process and time, which helps you schedule a job. Processes and technology constantly change, which means we have to change with it to be efficient.

WHAT OR WHO INSPIRES YOU?

My grandfather, who walk through Germany with a gun in his pocket to escape Hitler to eventually make it to the USA. He taught me to treat everyone with respect no matter what color, race, religion, or orientation they may be.
