Employee Spotlight

HGC Construction would not be the company it is today without its incredible staff. Each month we highlight one member from our team with a Q&A session. Donna Green has been with HGC for 6 1/2 years and is a valuable part of our HGC Group of Companies Accounting Team.

Donna Green, Payroll Manager

What is your personal philosophy?

“Never judge a book by its cover.” Some of the greatest people and situations that I have been involved with would have never happened if I hadn’t looked further than the surface.

What is your favorite aspect of working at HGC?

Without a doubt, the people! What an awesome and wonderful crew we have.

Across your career, what has changed the most in the industry or how you operate?

The technology. Over thirty years ago, I use to receive time, materials used and inventory on what was called a ‘keypunch’ card. If the card wasn’t completed correctly you would end up with the ‘hanging chads’ that would screw up the whole system. Now we can send, compute and calculate with just the push of a button.

Any funny memory you’d like to share?

I can remember being five years old and waking up on Easter morning with my brothers at our family campsite in Indiana. We were so excited to get out of the trailer and start hunting eggs.  As we were pushing and pulling on each other to get out the trailer door, it opened and we all fell into a fourteen inch pile of snow. I would have loved to have saw the look on our faces. Who says it doesn’t snow on Easter!

What do you like to do on your days off?

Anything that involves spending time with my family and friends!

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher. I think if I hadn’t caught the ‘accounting/finance’ bug that is where I would be.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

Nothing. If you know me, you pretty much know everything about me. I’m an open book.

What are you most proud of?

My kids. It doesn’t matter what I do in my lifetime, my kids are my legacy and they make me proud every single day.

What advice would you give to a new hire?

Don’t be timid with this group of people. We have some of the most educated, seasoned, friendly coworkers who are always willing to answer any question.

Anything else you’d like to add?

In the last few years we have grown so much, I can’t wait to see where we are headed!
