Inaugural Leadership Challenge: Greg Lukey

two workers standing and smiling [1]At HGC Group of Companies, we build together, and we build each other [2]. We are a relationship-driven company, and we believe in investing in our most valuable asset—our people. The third class of Leadership Academy [3] is currently underway, empowering employees at all levels to gain the leadership skills necessary to advance their careers. This month, we kicked off the inaugural Leadership Challenge.

The Leadership Challenge is a monthly company-wide challenge to identify, acknowledge and share great examples of leadership seen in colleagues every day. So often, people don’t know how their own influence until it is celebrated by others, and this is an opportunity to thank those who are leading every day, through actions big and small.

10 Leadership Commitments [4]

Nominations are collected on a rolling basis and nominated by their peers, and one person is selected by a panel of HR professionals to be recognized at our monthly Staph meeting [5]. In its first month, seven different employees across the Group of Companies received nominations. One person received four different nominations, and was praised for his patience and willingness to empower and inspire those around him.

Greg Lukey, Superintendent and HGC Leader

Portrait of Greg Lukey [6]George Lukey has been with HGC Construction for nearly ten years. He is a superintendent and has been a critical part of the team on large-scale renovation projects including Walnut Hills [7], St. Aloyisus [8], and School Outfitters [9]. He is currently working on the Columbia Building renovation [10], and received high praise from team members for the experience he creates on that job site.

“When I started with HGC eight years ago, I worked on Greg’s job and he made sure I understood what the HGC “standard” was and what was expected of me, while still making sure I was comfortable enough to speak, being a completely new job and company.”

“He took me under his wing and taught me a lot of things, including HGC’s expectations as a field worker and field leader. He’s always there when I have a question, even if I’m not working with him on a specific job.”

“I have been on the jobsite with Greg for about 6 months now and so far he has been my mentor and taught me how to properly conduct a walk through with a building inspector, what to look for in a punch list, and knowing how and when to send an RFI.”

HGC Construction believes in doing great work with like-minded people. We are grateful for everyday leaders like Greg—they make HGC Group of Companies who it is.
