Stargel Stadium Breaks Ground

Large crowd digs ceremonial dirt at groundbreakingA high-energy crowd of hundreds created a pep rally atmosphere for the ceremonial groundbreaking of the new Stargel Stadium. HGC is the general contractor [1] for Phase 1 of the large and high-profile project.

Representatives from Cincinnati Public Schools [2], FC Cincinnati, HGC Construction, and the Stargel family were all present to celebrate this milestone. Both the old stadium and the new one are named for Willard Stargel [3], a beloved CPS coach who passed away in 2000. His son, Jason, shared remarks and then was joined by his sister to receive a commemorative plaque in honor of Willard’s legacy.

The $10 million stadium project is part of the investment in the West End as part of the arrival of FC Cincinnati. With FC Cincinnati taking the area that holds the old Stargel Stadium, multiple CPS high schools were in need of a new facility. The new stadium will seat more than 3,000 spectators and will also include locker rooms with enhanced technology, fitness/weight room, improved concessions, improved restrooms, a press box, and a trainer’s room, and more.

HGC is proud to continue its long tradition of delivering quality work to Cincinnati Public Schools [4].
