Mercy McAuley Ribbon Cutting

A group of high school girls and middle-aged to elderly adults stand in front of a large building, as part of the ceremonial Mercy McAuley ribbon cutting. There are columns of orange gray and white balloons. Energetic wolf-howls filled the air, and chants and cheers bounced off the walls at the Mercy McAuley ribbon cutting on the morning of August 15, 2018. The ribbon cutting celebrated the beginning of the first school year with the new Mercy McAuley identity. HGC Construction was honored to update the facility in order to meet the needs of a new school population.

HGC has worked with several other local schools, including Walnut Hills [1], St. Ursula Academy [2], and Summit Country Day [3]

Two Communities, One School

Mercy McAuley is the new school created from the merger of Mother of Mercy High School and McAuley High School [4]. The merger was announced in March of 2017. The schools operated as normal for the remaining school year and the next. This meant that all updates and changes had to be completed during the summer of 2018, in time for the first day of school.

The project involved updating the auditorium, gymnasium, landscaping and a new plaza in front of the main entrance, refreshing all common spaces to reflect the new identity, and a Legacy Center to preserve beloved pieces of both schools’ histories. Stanton Millworks [6] created the custom casings for the Legacy Center.

Superintendent Justin Meyer praises his field staff. “They were always ahead of the game,” he said, “and kept to the schedule, which was a tight one. But we had to be ready for the school year.”
