Standalone Graeter's Ice Cream shop on a sunny day with blue sky and fewAugust 10, 2018 marked the Grand Opening of a new Graeter’s Ice Cream Parlor in Hilliard, OH. Graeter’s has been a long-time client and we were honored to help expand their presence in the Columbus region. The Hilliard Graeter’s is the twelfth in the central Ohio area, and is one of only nine shops nationally with a drive-thru.

New Location, New Demands

The 2,500-square-foot standalone shop is in proximity to Old Hilliard. The project required demolishing three buildings to make room, and was situated at the corner of a bustling five-way intersection, requiring detailed preconstruction planning.

“The project presented many challenges, especially with zoning, permitting, and municipality coordination,” stated HGC Project Manager Shelley Abercrombie. “The design team, including Graeter’s, HGC Construction, BDR Design Group, Luminaut, Thorson Baker + Associates, and The Kleinger Group, worked diligently through this process to ensure all requirements were met.”

Abercrombie continued, “Superintendent Bob Pitz did an excellent job managing the day to day coordination, particularly in quickly building strong relationships with new subcontractors. The final product was above expectations for Graeter’s, and most importantly, the community this store will be serving.”

Added Project Manager Mack Parks, “It’s all worth it when you see the first customer walk through the doors.”

Grand Opening festivities included welcomes from Chip Graeter, a fourth-generation owner, as well as Senior Store Manager Jason Hudson. Guests received free single dip sugar cones from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. while supplies lasted. A portion of proceeds from the Grand Opening will support A Kid Again, according to Graeter’s.
