Sleepy Bee Cafe & Aster Bar Opens Downtown

We are thrilled to add the latest Sleepy Bee Café to our renowned list of restaurant projects. Bam Realty contracted HGC Construction to build the third installation of the popular breakfast and lunch eatery which is located at 8 E. Fourth Street in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.

The space also is home to bar concept, Aster Social Sippery, situated two stories above the picturesque café. Among the many remarkable features of the space are the wood trusses situated atop Aster’s 25 foot ceilings. HGC successfully extracted the heavy wood timbers from the structure and reworked them prominently into the upscale bar.

“The owners appreciation for natural materials and re-purposing existing materials from the building is genuine.  When removing the wood floor joists and large roof truss to install the exterior patio for Aster Social Sippery on the 3rd floor, they wanted to reuse the floor joists as a cladding façade for the 1st and 3rd floor main bars. In addition the countertop when entering the restaurant used re-purposed wood joists and joist hangers removed from the building as brackets.” – Project Manager, Jake Suer.

Situated in the central business district, the building was the longtime home the renowned Burkhardt Bros. Clothiers. Today, the 6,000 square foot restaurant will seat about 110, and serve breakfast and lunch. Designed by MMA architect, Michael McInturf, the warm rustic design features modern lines and successfully leverages existing features such as exposed brick, illuminated by the aluminum and glass garage doors that make up the curtain wall.
